Holy grail status for this psych funk 45 on the tiny Italian label RRC by The Pawshop aka the improbable collaboration of Umiliani, Alessandroni and Sorgini, wow, just that!!! The result is this terific double sider with "The Telegraph Is Calling", a kind of track drenched in the psychedelica but driven by an insane funky rhythm section, one of my all time best track!!! "My Shade" is also brilliant including plenty of gloomy effects over a heavy hip hop beat, listen the soundclip!!!
Wow! This 45 is not only a favorite of mine, but also one of the most solid efforts (IMO) of 3 of the greatest Italian maestros. While all of these musicians were known for composing various genres of music, most know them for their cinema scores, rare library releases, and down right funky, moody, and confident composing abilities. In this extremely scarce 45, we have them waving their psych flag on top of amazing drum patterns, vocal howling/hissing, studio FX, and haunting vocals. My favorite song “My Shade”, is the B side to this already amazing A side (Telegraph Is Calling). A true rarity, and one that I guarantee was released in extremely small quantities in the early 1970′s.
My Shade is phenomenal... The B-side kills, my fave of the two and I love them each dearly to death. Listen to that a few dozen more times. Both tracks are earth-shatteringly brilliant. The lyrics of 'My Shade' are nothing short of stultifying; granted 'Telegraph is Calling' is no slouch in that department either. I worship the world this comes from. Best psychedelic 7" ever released.. and there is a lot of competition from the prime 1967-1972 international axis. Surprised this has not been brought back from the bins of obscurity for a vinyl reissue, especially since the record will set someone back to the tune of 225-400 smackers if it can be found.
